The presidential candidate for the Democratic Unitary Platform, Edmundo González, rejected the attack once morest the former president of the United States, Donald Trump.
“We reject the attack on former US President Donald Trump. Political violence must be left behind throughout the world. In Venezuela we have suffered its impact for years and we long for a future of respect and peace for the entire region. Our solidarity goes out to the people of the United States,” he said.
Trump was holding a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, when he had to be removed from the podium following an apparent attack.
The Republican candidate had been on stage for just ten minutes and following apparent gunshots rang out, he was taken off the stage with blood on his ear and part of his face.
Trump’s spokesman, Steven Cheung, said in a statement that Trump “is doing well and is being treated at a local medical facility.”
The Secret Service, which is looking following Trump as a former president, also said in a statement that the Republican “is safe” and that an investigation is underway into what happened.
