The former presidential candidate of the Venezuelan opposition Edmundo González Urrutia, met in Spain with the high representative for foreign affairs of the European Union (EU), Josep Borrell.
Gonzalez, through his X Gonzalez account, highlighted the meeting that took place within the framework of the La Toja-Vínculo Atlántico Forum, held in O Grove, where the Venezuelan opposition leader was honored by those present, among whom were the former presidents of the Spanish Government Felipe González and Mariano Rajoy and the elected president of the European Council, António Costa.
“We talked about respect and international recognition for the Carter Center, the impact of Jennie Lincoln’s intervention yesterday at the OAS and the next steps in the construction of democracy in Venezuela,” he explained to The Impulse.
Borrell’s position
It is important to note that Borrell previously stated in a press conference that the “Venezuelan electoral records presented by the Carter Center reaffirm the position of the European Union of not recognizing Nicolás Maduro as the elected president.”
Borrell stressed that it is a prestigious institution, and that if it presents documents that claim to be the electoral records “they will be”, since he does not believe that it presents something that does not faithfully correspond to reality. “These minutes, along with those presented by the opposition, reflect a result that we have always pointed out, that Maduro did not win the elections and the opposition leader who is now a refugee in Spain won,” Borrell added. “democratically in Venezuela.”
