EDMONTON, Alta. – Connor McDavid scored a goal and added two assists, leading the Edmonton Oilers to a 16th straight victory, 4-1 over the Nashville Predators, Saturday followingnoon.

The Oilers’ historic winning streak continues, as the Alberta team is just one win away from sharing the NHL record held by the 1992-1993 edition of the Pittsburgh Penguins.

It was the Oilers’ last game before leaving for the All-Star break. We will see them in action once more on Tuesday, February 6 once morest the Vegas Golden Knights.

After a dismal start to the season leading to the firing of Jay Woodcroft on November 12, McDavid and his gang have a resounding record of 24-3-0 in their last 27 games.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Leon Draisaitl also scored for Edmonton (29-15-1), which is still gaining ground in the Pacific division standings.

“It’s special,” Draisaitl said following the game. It takes very good effort and good matches to get to that number. In the last three games, it was less good at times, but their individual performances led us to victory. Sometimes it takes that too. It’s quite a sequence for us. »

The Oilers have allowed two goals or fewer to their opponents in their last 14 outings.

” That’s exciting. Obviously, it’s a whole series of successes, and our goaltenders played very well, commented McDavid. This last week, we didn’t offer our best hockey, but we still came away with three victories, which is a very good sign. We had excellent performances from the goalkeepers, our defenders did well, the numerical inferiority was superb. These are all positives. »

Skinner faced 30 shots, while his opposite number Kevin Lankinen gave up three times on 20 shots. He is 19-2 in his most recent 21 starts.

Zach Hyman confirmed the victory for the home team by depositing the puck into an empty cage with 3:19 remaining in the third. It was the 30th goal of the campaign for No. 18 Oilers.

With 59 points in 45 games, Kris Knoblauch’s men find themselves five points behind the Knights (29-14-6), second in the Pacific, having played four games less than them.

A 158-minute scoreless streak ended for the Oilers when Colton Sissons beat Stuart Skinner with 6:35 left on the scoreboard.

Forward Corey Perry played his first game in an Oilers uniform. He spent just over 12 minutes on the ice recording two shots on goal. He had not played since November 19 and had his contract subsequently terminated by the Chicago Blackhawks. Earlier this week, he signed a new agreement with the Alberta team.
