EDF Union Power Shift: CFE-CGC Takes Top Spot, CGT Losing Influence

2023-11-14 08:36:00

It’s historic, the CGT loses its place at the top of the podium within EDF. If the Montreuil power plant garnered 30.31% during the last professional organizations which were held from November 6 to 13, this score was not enough to remain number 1. The CFE-CGC, in fact, collected 33 .08%, placing her at the top of the vote.

However in 2019, the gap between the two organizations was significant, since the CGT won with 34.17% of the votes once morest 28.6% for the CFE-CGC.

CGT methods “not appreciated by everyone”

This loss of influence of the CGT, of which EDF was nevertheless a historic bastion, is not new: with each election, the decline of the central party led by Sophie Binet has continued to be confirmed.

Several reasons explain this disenchantment: there are more and more executives in the electrician workforce. But according to a person familiar with the matter, “the methods adopted by the CGT, such as the blockages during the conflict once morest pension reform, were not appreciated by all…”. On the side, of François Hommeril, the leader of the CFE-CGC, “this result salutes the work of the field teams”.

The CFDT, third organization within EDF

Thus, until 2027, the CGT will have fewer representatives in bodies, such as the social and environmental committees. It will therefore have less weight to influence government policy while EDF has been nationalized and faces major challenges, in particular to build future nuclear reactors.

For its part, the CFDT remains the third organization of the electricity operator with 16.63%, but it is also losing ground. In 2019, it totaled 17.45%. FO is close behind with 15.33% of the votes, but remains stable since four years ago, it had collected 15.50% of the votes. Sud Énergie nibbles a few votes, going from 1.98% to 2.02%.
