Eddie Murphy mentioned Will Smith’s infamous Oscar slap during his Golden Globe speech

(CNN) — Eddie Murphy jumped at the opportunity to joke during his acceptance speech for the Cecil B. DeMille lifetime achievement award at the Golden Globes on Tuesday night.

During his speech, he said he was in “show business for 46 years and in the movie business for 41 years, so that’s been a long time.”

After thanking his family, partners, producers and his agent, Murphy decided to end his speech with some sage advice for others who dream of making it in show business.

“I want to tell you that there is a definitive plan to achieve success, prosperity and tranquility. It’s very simple,” he said. And he added: “There are three things: pay your taxes, mind your own business and keep the name of Will Smith’s wife out of your fucking mouth.”

It was in reference, of course, to the infamous Will Smith slaps host Chris Rock at last year’s Academy Awards ceremony, following Rock made a joke regarding Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.
