– Ed Sheeran: autumn comes with a snowdrop
The English redhead reinvents maple syrup in “Autumn Variations”. The salt is to be found on the side of Róisin Murphy or the saxophonist Léon Phal.

He is kind, maintains a modest profile and there are countless potential mothers-in-law who would adopt him as their musical son-in-law. Alas, Ed Sheeran, a 32-year-old anti-rockstar, is already married and releases albums without any regard for the insulin levels of his followers. Barely five months after “-” (the minus sign), Eddie “Fire Hair” Sheeran identifies with a scorched autumn leaf fluttering in the air vibrating with good feelings and ends up liquefying in streams of tender tears .
The English star ends up looking like Bastian Baker (although less fit into it) and that’s not good news for him… Pseudo-folk (although “When Will I Be Alright”), sanitized pop and moist anthems (the palm to “Punchline”) jostle in this “Autumn Variations” which we willingly abandon to its upset fans, while waiting for it to dress us for winter.

Léon Phal, stress-killing saxophonist
Like a joyfully hedonistic return from the late nineties… Saxophonist Léon Phal delivers a “Stress Killer” which is much better than most drugs on the market. Its supple and lively jazz blends with deliberately danceable sounds where the breaks and rolls of drummer Arthur Alard, the whirring double bass of Rémi Bouyssière, the ever so agile and versatile keyboards of Gauthier Toux and the scathing trumpet of Zacharie Ksyk maintain a course sensual in the vicinity of what we could call “acid jazz”.
An option reinforced by the soulful presence of the Cameroonian singer Lorine Chia and the scansion of KOG With this 3rd album, the prompter still gains rather enjoyable stripes which now lead him to multiply the dates in France. Closer to us, Léon Phal performs in Geneva on October 5, as part of JazzContreBand.

Róisin Murphy, singer for “Hit Parade”

Since the revelation of “Do You Like My Tight Sweater?”, Moloko’s first album in 1995, we have never abandoned singer Róisin Murphy, a sort of sardonic false sister to Beth Gibbons from Portishead. More prolific, the Irishwoman releases “Hit Parade”, sixth solo album now part of the Ninja Tune stable, after having already made an impression with the four Moloko records. His occasional collaborations with DJs (Boris Dlugosch, Crookers, Mason, etc.) are part of his habits.
For this latest production, the eccentric singer joined forces with German Stefan Kozallaau, aka DJ Koze – also known as Adolf Noise. Eclectic, full of acid resonances and multiplying sound distortions to the point of “glitch”, “Hit Parade” nonetheless highlights the expressive and polymorphous voice of a very plastic pop singer. The new Annie Lennox?
