Ed Sheeran welcomed an unexpected surprise Alex Reed during his concert in Detroit on Saturday, as Eminem appeared on stage to perform two of his biggest hits alongside the British singer.
In his performance at Ford Field in the motor city, Sheeran recognized Eminem’s hometown by first going solo with the success of 8 Mile, ‘Lose Yourself’, telling the public that he had rehearsed it that same day. “We’ll see how it turns out,” he said.
Then, without warning and halfway through the song, Slim Shady himself came on stage to accompany him:
“Can I say that he was going to go out and do a song, but I told him you can’t go out in Detroit and do just one song. Do you want another song?” Sheeran asked the audience.
Eminem stayed to sing ‘Stan,’ and Sheeran played Dido to the rapper’s obsessed fan. “Detroit, I’ve missed you!” Eminem told the audience following the performance.
The duet was something of a reunion between Sheeran and Eminem, who had previously performed together during the rapper’s induction ceremony into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2022, in which the two performed “Stan” together as part of a mix of tracks from Slim Shady.
The two artists first collaborated together in 2017 when Sheeran guested on the song ‘River’ by Revival from Eminem. The rapper returned the favor a year later with his participation in ‘Remember the Name’, a cut from the project No. 6 Collaborations de Sheeran.
