Ecuadorian soccer is involved in a scandal following the discovery of more than $5,000 in the referees’ dressing room during the confrontation between Deportivo Quevedo and Leones in the quarterfinals of the second category.
Last Sunday, October 5, before the crucial match, the image of a National Police agent counting wads of bills in the referee’s dressing room went viral on social networks. This discovery generated speculation regarding a possible bribery attempt, plunging Ecuadorian football into a scandal that has not yet been clarified.

The match, played at the 7 de Octubre stadium, ended with a 1-1 draw. However, the controversy increased when in the additional minutes (98′) a penalty was awarded in favor of the home team. Despite this situation, however, Jean Robledo, the player in charge of collecting, missed his shot, leaving the definition for the second game.
