Ecuadorian President declared a state of emergency in Guayaquil after an attack that left five dead and eight houses destroyed

For “the criminal events given in the last hours”, The President of Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso, declared a state of emergency in the city of Guayaquil, a few hours following an explosion was recorded that left five fatalities16 injured and eight houses destroyed, in the neighborhood of Cristo del Consuelo.

The announcement was made through the president’s Twitter account, where he added that “the entire public force will be available to restore control of the city. We will not allow organized crime to try to run the country”.

Previously, the incident had been described by the authorities as an attack and until 11:00 a.m., the Guayaquil Fire Department continued to search for missing persons among the rubble of the houses that were affected by the explosion.

At once, the Ministry of the Interior of that country offered a reward of 10,000 dollars (more than eight million Chilean pesos) to those who provide information regarding the alleged perpetrators of the attack.

It should be noted that said attack would have been carried out with an explosive device and would be the work of “organized crime mercenaries”According to the interior minister, Patrick Carrillo.

“It is a declaration of war once morest the State. Either we unite to face it or the price will be even higher for society”declared the Secretary of State to the newspaper El Universal.

Until then, the Ecuadorian Prosecutor’s Office announced the opening of an investigation in which it will provide its full support to the National Police.
