The National Police of Ecuador provided details regarding the rescue of Luis Toledo, a Chilean sailor who was kidnapped by unknown persons in Guayaquil and who this Sunday was rescued alivereporting that his captors amputated two fingers.

Colonel Fabary Montalvo, commander(s) of Zone 8, indicated that the kidnapping in question took place on November 29, a day on which -during the night- the victim’s wife began to receive calls from the captors, who they demanded an amount of 100 thousand dollars.

Immediately followingwards, he added that this led to the activation of an investigation to find the whereregardings of the Chilean citizen, indicating that following the collection of the respective information “allowing to find the location and rescue of the victim.”

“The operation was carried out in the Durán canton, where relevant information was previously obtained from the participants in the criminal act,” he said, adding that “the neutralization and apprehension of an individual who directly participates in the kidnapping of this man is achieved.” .

He also stated that following that “the kidnapping victim was released (…) It is necessary to mention the level of violence demonstrated by the captors once morest the victim.”.

Regarding the reasons that led to his kidnapping, Montalvo indicated that Toledo bought a property in said country, for which they presume that “he had an approach with some type of individual, who thought or thinks he had a high economic position, reason for which they might carry out or benefit from this kidnapping.”.

In this sense, he emphasized that the only detainee so far for the kidnapping corresponds to a 30-year-old Ecuadorian citizen.

In addition, it pointed out that following the capture of this individual, the captors of Luis Toledo “they get scared and release the kidnapped person”.

It should be remembered that Toledo is a native of the commune of Florida, Bío Bío region, who was in Ecuador on leave without pay by the Navy.
