The Qualifiers for Qatar 2022 marked the return of the Ecuadorian National Team to Guayaquil for an official match following several years. ‘La Tri’ received Bolivia at the Monumental Stadium, a game in which they were decisively defeated by 3-0. History was written in that match, as Enner Valencia became the top scorer for the National Team.
Within the Ecuadorian Football Federation (FEF) they were very happy with the public’s response, so they did not rule out playing once more in another venue other than Quito. Now that those led by Gustavo Alfaro are one tie away from getting a direct spot in the World Cup, Ecuador will once once more play outside the capital.
Journalist Christian Carrasco reported that the match between ‘La Tri’ and Argentina for the last date of the Qualifiers will be played at the Monumental Stadium in Guayaquil. The Ecuadorian National Team hopes to arrive classified directly to the last match, and they want to give the Guayaquileños the opportunity to see the ‘Everyone’s Team’ once more.
Ecuador occupies the third position in the Qualifiers with 25 points, and will seek to add once morest Paraguay as visitors or once morest Argentina as local. ‘La Tri’ has already secured the playoffs, but the main goal is to get the direct quota, something that is very close, but that is not mathematically confirmed, despite the great goal difference that they have.
