Due to an alleged suspension, the possibility that the Tri would run out of the World Cup was circulated
It all began with a statement by Jannet Emén-Sánchez, representative of the National Anti-Doping Organization (ONADE): “The Ecuadorian national team is at serious risk of being suspended at the international level”.
This was due to the fact that ONADE stopped receiving economic funds from the Ministry of Sports and, as a consequence, it cannot comply with the tests required by the World Anti-Doping Agency.
By not complying with the established norms, Ecuador might be suspended from international sporting events, however, from the Ecuadorian Government they were in charge of ruling out any punishment for the country.
“There is no risk of being sanctioned, since we will directly assume all the pending values. We have a very fluid relationship and permanent contact with the World Anti-Doping Agency,” the Sports Ministry said.
“It is true that we have not given them the money. This is not due to lack of management, but because the figure of creation of the ONADE in the previous period was irregular, illegal. We will assume the pending obligations that ONADE has, verifying each value as it is due,” they added.
In this way, Ecuador does not seem to run the risk of participating in the Qatar World Cup.
