A delegation from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) led by Commission Chairman Jean-Claude Kassi Brou says it had “very constructive” discussions with Burkina Faso’s Transitional President on Friday Lieutenant Colonel Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba, we learned from an official source.

“It was really very constructive discussions and we are very happy regarding it,” said Jean-Claude Kassi Brou, following the interview with Damiba, according to a press release from the Presidency.

The emissaries of the sub-regional organization carried a message from the current president of the Conference of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS, Nana Akufo Addo.

“This message essentially relates to the recent discussions held during the extraordinary ECOWAS summit on March 25,” said Jean-Claude Kassi Brou.

According to the President of the ECOWAS Commission, the President of Faso also gave the delegation clarifications relating to the Transition.

Other meetings are scheduled for Saturday with members of the Burkinabè government, according to diplomatic sources.

At its last extraordinary summit, ECOWAS said it was “concerned” regarding the three-year duration of the political transition in Burkina Faso.

In response to this demand, the Burkinabè president declared Friday evening in a message to the Nation that the duration of the transition might be revised if the security situation improved.

He maintained that the priority of the transition was the fight once morest terrorism, while calling on ECOWAS and the international community to support Burkina Faso.

For the time being, Burkina Faso remains suspended from the ECOWAS bodies of the African Union and the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF).
