If you are close to someone who is or may be a victim of economic violence, the following information and tools may be helpful to you. Signs may include (situations are not exhaustive):

???? The person never has enough money: they often leave their purse “at home”, they often borrow money to pay bills

???? The person seems to be in some sort of conflict with their partner regarding money, wages or savings, the person emphasizes that it is their partner who takes care of the money and that they have no knowledge of these things, the person emphasizes that they do not have access to joint accounts.

???? The person prefers to pay for everything in cash, takes a long time to decide to buy something inexpensive, or says the following phrase: “he won’t let me spend money on that”…

???? The person expresses the desire to work while emphasizing that their partner does not encourage them in this direction, they avoid moments of socialization.

What to do ?

???? The first tip is talkalways talk: say that it is not normal, express your concern, encourage people to talk regarding it more, take the person out of the isolation induced by violence. Believe themalways.

???? Then, you can redirect them to suitable structures: their bank, an association like Women’s solidarity and its local branches or at 3919 – 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.

☎️ Economic abuse rarely occurs in isolation – if the person believes they are a victim of domestic violence or any form of violence and are in immediate danger, they should call the police.
