The economy is doing well in the canton of Neuchâtel. 53% of companies announce that they have had a good to very good year in 2022, indicates the economic survey of the Neuchâtel Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CNCI) published on Friday. Slightly more than 20% of them describe this same year as difficult to very difficult.

In detail, 56% of the companies questioned saw their turnover increase in 2022 compared to the previous year, compared to 19% who experienced a decrease.

Hopes for 2023

For the current year, 44% of companies believe that they will achieve a better turnover than in 2022 and 25% will invest more. A majority of companies with more than 100 employees want to increase their workforce. Medium-skilled and highly-skilled staff are particularly sought following.

An economic situation that weighs

The general economic situation, on the other hand, weighs on the morale of Neuchâtel companies, which tops the list – at 87% – of concerns. The economy is also worried regarding the difficulties in recruiting and the price of raw materials. “Companies are showing realism: geopolitical factors, shortages and inflation risk sooner or later turning once morest the progress of their business”, comments the director of the CNCI Florian Németi.

A total of 277 companies responded to this CNCI economic survey, representing more than 12,500 employees in the canton. /comm-gtr
