ALGIERS – The Minister of Industry and Pharmaceutical Production, Ali Aoun called, Saturday in Algiers, Algerian economic companies to adapt to the changes experienced by the national economy, through the diversification of their products and the contribution to meet local demand, while preserving the quality of production.
The minister was speaking during a working and inspection visit he made to the wilaya of Algiers, in the company of the wali of Algiers, Mohamed Abdennour Rabehi.
This visit aims to inquire regarding development projects and eliminate obstacles for businesses and companies operating in different industrial fields.
In this context, Mr. Aoun followed a presentation by the State on the investment situation and the availability of land in the wilaya of Algiers which has 3 industrial zones.
The presentation presented reports the recovery of 51 plots of land in 2022, with an estimated area of 74.34 ha, the regularization of 167 projects, and some 15,000 jobs created.
According to the presentation, the wilaya of Algiers, which has 673 active companies and 25 activity zones with an area of 139 ha, has drawn up a program, with a view to the creation of four micro-zones for the benefit of projects intended for youth.
First point of the visit, the ministerial delegation went to the headquarters of the company “El Hilal” for the industrial processing of paper in the industrial zone of Oued Smar. Created in 2001, the company provides 500 direct jobs.
After inquiring regarding the production process of the Company which opens up to foreign markets following having covered local demand, the minister welcomed this investment calling for working on the local production of raw materials to reduce the cost of production. ‘import.
At the minister’s second stop, the “Sinaatec” business project at Ford of Constantine, a subsidiary of the public group “Madar” and specialized in the non-woven fabric industry, the minister welcomed this project which he described as “pride” for the national industry, especially as it helps to cover local demand, particularly in terms of hospital services.
After learning regarding the production capacities of the project which started in 2019 and which entered into operation in 2023, with an initial capacity of 30,000 tonnes/year and a workforce of 100 employees, the minister gave instructions to the effect of getting closer to hospitals to cover needs and underlined the imperative to continue to offer quality products.
The minister received explanations on the two production lines that the company has, in addition to other data on the research and quality control unit under the same company.
Finally, the minister visited the factory of a private company specializing in the manufacturing of home and office furniture in Ouled Fayet “Home Sofa” which has existed on the national market since 2019 and has 330 employees, where he received explanations on the factory’s aspirations to increase its production capacity to move towards exports.
On this occasion, Mr. Aoun gave instructions to the leaders, in particular for the diversification of products and the orientation towards other industries such as the manufacturing of automobile seats, to meet the needs of the national economy and the Algerian market, while opting for good quality.
At the end of the visit, the minister welcomed, during a press conference, the diversity of the industrial fabric in the wilaya of Algiers, calling in this regard on those responsible to “provide more efforts for the creation new employment positions, to meet the needs of the local market and then go for export”, which is capable of making “the wilaya of Algiers a model to follow for other wilayas”.
In response to a question on certain public companies experiencing “financial difficulty”, the minister affirmed that public economic companies “do not suffer from financial problems, but from management problems”, recalling in this sense the case of the Company National Household Electrical Industries (ENIEM), and the National Electronic Industries Company (ENIE) which “have considerable capacities and a significant market share”, he said.
Referring to the national product, Mr. Aoun welcomed the quality of the various local products, as well as the high rate of integration experienced by certain products, specifying in this regard that “they are able to compete with imported products, leaving the consumer spoiled for choice.
