The electric bike is more and more popular with the French. However, its fairly high purchase price, between 2,000 and 2,500 euros, can be a hindrance for some. To democratize this ecological means of transport, many aids are put in place.

This Saturday is World Bike Day. A means of transport increasingly popular with the French with two and a half million sales last year, a quarter of which were electric. But the purchase price is still a brake for some French people. So more and more aid is being put in place to democratize this means of transport.

Ecological bonus or conversion bonus

It takes an average of 2,000 to 2,500 € to afford a electric bike. To lower the bill, there are two possibilities which can be combined: the ecological bonus and the conversion bonus, with a bonus of 300 or 400 euros maximum for households with the lowest incomes. But there are also new short or long-term rental offers. Flexibility embodied, for example, by the young company Motto founded by Driss Ibenmansour, a specialist in the sector, who is currently seeing the end of the shortage created by the very strong demand for two years. Good news for consumers.

“We are rather seeing a drop in the prices of electric bicycles on sale at the moment. Manufacturers have produced en masse to meet this demand. Except that they have overproduced. There are many brands today that have overstocked and who, to get rid of their stocks, lower prices”, he explains.

If the purchase remains too expensive for your budget, monthly subscriptions are developing, with formulas from 60 to 90 € per month with new players like Motto, Dance or Swapfiets, but also more classic ones like Decathlon.
