ECOLAB divided food and beverage introducing cleaning and sanitation solutions to help producers of recycled polyethylene terephthalate (RPET) or recycled polyethylene terephthalate plastic. This is to optimize the washing program, provide high quality cleaning results and save water and energy use.
Ecolab Marketing Director in Southeast Asia, Terence Tan explained that Ecolab’s approach helps RPET producers from upstream to downstream processes. This approach opens up collaboration opportunities, enabling innovative solutions tailored to address challenges facing RPET manufacturers.
“Ecolab is collaborating with RPET producer, Amandina Bumi Nusantara, one of the largest RPET producers in Indonesia which produces 36,000 tons per year,” said Tan in his statement, Saturday (28/9).
“By partnering with Ecolab, we have significantly improved product quality and operational efficiency in our processes,” explained Managing Director of Amandina Bumi Nusantara, Suharji Gasali.
President Director of Ecolab Indonesia, Evan Jayawiyanto, added that his party has a reliable team and is supported by capable engineering technology to optimize and reduce operational costs, as well as encourage a more sustainable approach for RPET producers.
“Our partnership with Amandina shows that Ecolab’s expertise is rooted in science, and we provide solutions dedicated to making the world cleaner, safer and healthier,” he said.
He explained that in the midst of increasingly pressing environmental issues, the recycling industry is facing big challenges. According to data from the UN Environment Program (UN Environment), the world produces around 300 million tons of plastic waste every year, almost equivalent to the total weight of the human population. Around 8 million tons of plastic waste enters the ocean every year.
Globally, including in Southeast Asia, companies in the food and beverage industry sector are starting to take concrete steps by committing to replacing 50% of existing plastic packaging with recycled plastic in the next decade.
This shift towards environmental sustainability is changing the way products are produced, purchased and consumed, fueling the growth of products marketed on a sustainable basis.
Half of all plastic produced is designed for single use, making the need for effective plastic recycling solutions increasingly important, including optimizing water use and implementing high hygiene standards.
“Ecolab, a global leader in sustainability providing water, hygiene and infection prevention solutions, recognizes the importance of addressing the growing needs and challenges in the RPET industry,” he said. (N-2)
