In Brazil, an initiative encourages consumers to reuse packaging from TVs, monitors and audio equipment such as Soundbars and Sound Tower, to assemble different decorative objects that help organize the environment

Did you know that your television’s packaging material can contribute to more sustainable use? Reusing is a good way to avoid generating waste and, today, it is already possible to use your creativity and reuse the packaging of your Samsung TV, monitor, Soundbar or Sound Tower to build a little house for your pet, a magazine holder and so many other useful objects for everyday life. This is the proposal of Samsung Eco-Package.
“Instead of simply discarding the box following opening the product, the consumer can access the special website created by Samsung through the QR Code printed on the packaging, and discover all the creative ways of reuse. Using templates and instructions, you can choose what to transform the packaging into in a practical, hassle-free way, following the step-by-step process. In this way, the box that would be discarded becomes an object with a new use”, emphasizes Thiago César, Marketing Director for the Consumer Electronics division of Samsung Brazil.

The Eco-Package project originally emerged in 2019 at C-Lab, Samsung’s startup program, and was quickly implemented the following year in several countries. The three creators – Jonathan Whang, Sungdo Son and Daehee Yoon – presented the proposal to the business unit, which turned it into a product. In regarding a year, the idea had already been implemented in the packaging of Samsung TVs and, currently, it has been extended to the boxes of new products, such as monitors and home appliances in certain countries*.
Additionally, Samsung is always thinking regarding how the manufacturing process and use of products impact the environment, looking for ways to reduce its carbon footprint and build a better future for the planet, such as improving its eco-friendly packaging with 90 % less ink plus staple removal during production. Both improvements reduce waste and facilitate processing at recycling centers, in addition to being allied to the ESG pillars, which guide the company’s global operations.

Created with a focus on the company’s ESG missions and to encourage the responsible disposal of home appliances and electronics, the Eco Troca program can provide discounts on the purchase of new products at Samsung’s online store. Simply access the website www.ecotroca.com.br, fill out the disposal form and schedule the collection of your old device, of any brand and condition, to redeem your discount voucher. The initiative includes dishwashers, televisions, refrigerators, air conditioning and washing machines. Monitors are also accepted in the program, but in that case it is necessary to take it to one of the collection points available or post it at the Post Office.
