Santiago.-The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (Cepal) will release tomorrow an update of the projections of the gross domestic product (GDP) for each of the countries of the region in 2023.
The first estimates of economic growth in the region had been announced on December 15 in the annual economic report “Preliminary Balance” of the regional organization of the United Nations (UN).
According to the agency, “by 2023 a slowdown in the regional growth rate is expected.”
In its “Preliminary Balance”, ECLAC projects that regional growth in 2023 will be one third of the rate expected for 2022.
“In a context of external uncertainties and internal restrictions, the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean will grow 3.7% in 2022, just over half the rate of 6.7% registered in 2021,” the agency had remarked. from the ONU.
In this sense, he estimated that in 2023 the slowdown in economic growth would deepen and a rate of 1.3% would be reached.
As for the Argentine economy, ECLAC highlighted that last year there was a consolidation of the recovery achieved in 2021, a performance “associated with the total restoration of activities following the most critical stage of the coronavirus pandemic and official assistance policies.”
Meanwhile, the document continues, “for 2023 growth of 1% is expected, within the framework of a slowdown in world demand and a statistical drag from 2022 that is estimated to be negative.”
