Asuncion, IP Agency.- The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) released its economic report of Latin America and the Caribbean for this year 2024, where it maintains the growth projection of 3.8% for the Paraguayan economy, the second in the South American region.
The highest growth rate is expected to be in Venezuela, with 5%, followed by Paraguay with 3.8% and Uruguay with 3.6%, Peru and Chile with 2.6% and Brazil with 2.3%.
Following growth of 4.7% in 2023, supported by the recovery of agricultural activity and energy generation, a slight slowdown is projected due to the high comparison base and the rebound in domestic demand for imports.
The report also indicates that the fiscal deficit would close at 2.6%, after 4.2% of GDP in 2023, driven by the recognition of debts accumulated during the COVID-19 pandemic. The reduction of the deficit would be achieved through a continued reduction in public investment, as well as an increase in efficiency in tax management.
As for the Latin American region, the organization revised its growth projection downwards and set it at 1.8%. Argentina is projected to have a GDP decline of -3.6%, after -1.6% in 2023, the only negative value among the projections for the continent.
