Chairman of the Muhammadiyah Central Leadership (PP), Busyro Muqoddas, asked the government to pay attention to the welfare of judges in Indonesia. He believes that judges should not feel wronged because they are not being paid attention to.
Busyro conveyed this after receiving representatives of the Indonesian Judges Solidarity (SHI) at the PP Muhammadiyah Office, Central Jakarta, Tuesday (8/10).
Busyro explained that his party had received complaints about judges’ salaries not having increased for 12 years. He asked the relevant ministries to consider the aspirations of the judges who asked for a salary increase.

“After all, the welfare of judges is very important. Yes, mobility cannot be separated from welfare, not even health. If a judge is a professional judge, he must sometimes do what he calls it, work overtime, just read on a laptop, that’s not the case at all if there is no guarantee “health, adequate health, that’s a simple term for bullying judges. Don’t let that happen,” said Busyro.
He said that if the welfare of judges is not paid attention to, it will have a negative impact on Indonesian justice. He said judges would fall into corrupt practices.
“The impact will be to invite foreign investors. If later foreign investors give bribes, right, whose loss will be? The profits will be for the investors, and the damage will be for victims seeking justice who hope for a fair judge’s decision. Yes, judges are human after all. “Even though there are many good judges, the system must also support those good judges,” he said.

Previously, Indonesian Judges Solidarity (SHI) said that thousands of judges in courts throughout Indonesia would go on collective leave for five days from 7 to 11 October 2024. They demanded an increase in salaries and allowances which had not increased in the last 12 years.
SHI also demands the ratification of the Bill on the Position of Judges which seeks to create a strong and independent legal basis for the profession of Judge, which is regulated comprehensively through the Law on the Position of Judges. This is important to guarantee the position and authority of the judge’s profession in the eyes of the law.
Second, ratification of the Contempt of Court Bill which regulates protection for judges from all forms of contempt of court. This regulation is very necessary to ensure that the judicial process runs without intervention, threats or pressure from any party.
Third, Government regulations regarding Judge Security Guarantees which guarantee the safety of judges in carrying out their duties, including physical and psychological protection from potential threats or attacks that could occur during or after carrying out their judicial duties. (faj/P-2)
