Gilberto da Piedade Verissimo President of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), has authorized the deployment of an international observation mission within the framework of the legislative and local elections in the Republic of Congo.
The international observation mission for the legislative and local elections is led byr Gabriel Arcanjo Ferreira Da Costa, former Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Sao Tome and Principe. It comprises 20 election observers from ten member countries of the ECCAS. The deployment of this team in the Republic of Congo is in accordance with the community texts in force. Its purpose is to support the Congo-Brazzaville in order to contribute to the consolidation and anchoring of democracy in Central Africa. A technical supervision and coordination team made up of two senior officials from the ECCAS Commission and the representative of the Electoral Institute for Sustainable Democracy in Africa are supporting this mission.
