A nice gesture from the European Club Association.
Following a general assembly that brought together nearly 200 members, the members of the ECA (Association of European Clubs) have pledged to donate one million euros to support Ukraine in its war and humanitarian crisis .
“I am in contact with the United Nations Human Rights Council so that the ECA can help both the Ukrainian people and the refugees supported in neighboring countries”, writes President Nasser al-Khelaïfi din a press release published on the ECA website.
“I am also very proud to announce that the ECA will make available an initial financial contribution of one million euros to support our members’ efforts to help the people of Ukraine, while many of our clubs have also offered to find a safe place for the young players of the Ukrainian academy. The association remains determined to continue its efforts, together with partners and the whole football family, to support those affected by this terrible situation.
The Europe of today is very different from that of six months ago, when we all met for the last time in Geneva. We live in troubled times. We were all saddened to see the violent attacks once morest the Ukrainian people and we call for peace. The suffering we are witnessing reminds us of what really matters in life and why we cherish it so desperately, it also reminds us of the positive social force of football.”
