Brain inflammation limited by calorie restriction
A recent animal study uncovers a new mechanism to explain the positive impact of calorie restriction on the brain.
Low-calorie diets have been shown to prolong life expectancy and improve thecognitive stateboth in humans and in animal models, but the cellular processes associated with these benefits are only gradually being discovered: eating less seems activate a specific class of enzymes, sirtuinesinvolved in DNA repair, creating an epigenetic context capable of slowing down the rate of aging… or even simply limit theinflammation of neurons, and therefore their loss.
