LONDON (Archyde.com) – British airline easyJet has cut 2% of its summer flight schedule, affecting 180,000 customers, due to air traffic control problems in Europe.

The tourism sector is on high alert and fears further disruption this summer following that of last year, during which a lack of staff forced airlines to cancel some flights.

This year, Eurocontrol, which manages European airspace, warned that air traffic control might pose a problem.

EasyJet, the UK’s largest airline by passenger numbers, said on Monday that by canceling now it might avoid last-minute cancellations, which are more costly and more painful for passengers.

EasyJet said it had enough crew and pilots, but concerns over air traffic had caused it to cancel 1,700 flights, mostly from London’s Gatwick airport, out of 90,000 scheduled for the rest of the month. of July and the month of August.

The company specified that 95% of the passengers concerned had already been rebooked on another flight.

Staffing issues at some air traffic control centers and social unrest may lead to same-day cancellations.

“We are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused,” easyJet said in a statement.

The group’s stock remains stable on Monday.
