Imagine you have a namesake who constantly gives you trouble.
A young Briton had a ticket for a flight to Spain. The shock on the evening before departure: Easyjet informed him that he was not allowed to fly. Reason: His name is on the airline’s red list.
The airline’s email said Kieran had been given a “ten-year flight ban until 03/15/2031” “due to previous disruptive behavior.” The 21-year-old was actually not guilty of anything!
mistaken for a criminal
The solution to the riddle: Kieran Harris has a namesake who has attracted negative attention from the authorities on a number of occasions. The birthdays of the two men are also identical.
The trainee chartered accountant from Parkgate told Kennedy News & Media the airline mistook him for the other man. “The Twin” misbehaved while drunk on an Easyjet flight and was sentenced to 12 weeks in prison in 2021 for aggressive and abusive behavior. The airline was banned from flying for ten years.
“I was devastated. I just mightn’t believe it,” said the confused man. “I wasn’t booked anymore, I didn’t have a seat on the flight and there was no point in going to the airport at all.” It wasn’t the first time. “It’s a person who obviously has the same name and date of birth as me,” he says.
misunderstanding cleared up
Kieran contacted the airline and was able to verify his identity with a photo of his passport. Easyjet lifted the ban, but Kieran was able to fly to Alicante.
Because of his namesake, things have gotten uncomfortable for Kieran Harris: Last year, the Metropolitan Police stormed his house in bulletproof vests before the officers realized that they had the wrong man in front of them. After a car accident, he was also mistaken for the criminal Kieran Harris, says Kieran.
The 21-year-old is considering changing his name because of the mix-ups.
