Easyjet aligns a third annual loss in a row, but less heavy

“Easyjet, like the entire (air) sector, faced multiple headwinds ”, between the variant “Omicron, the impact of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the operational challenges” with the resumption of travel in the wake of the pandemic, the company underlined.

The carrier has taken the brunt of staff shortages hitting airlines and airports alike as demand rebounds, sparking weeks of chaos at UK airports, forcing it to cancel scores of flights and cut capacity transportation. These disturbances alone weighed 78 million pounds on its result. However, “Easyjet made a record rebound this summer” and posted an operating profit “the highest ever recorded for a single quarter”, at 674 million pounds, argued chief executive Johan Lundgren, quoted in the communicated.
