(Ecofin Agency) – In an effort to help people get to work on time, Ugandan entrepreneurs have set up a transport solution that serves the busiest routes in major cities across the country.
Easy Matatu is a digital platform developed by the Ugandan start-up of the same name. It gives commuters access to convenient and reliable public transport. The company founded in 2019 by Andrew Ssali, Lema Carl Andrew and Precious Turinawe, managed to raise USD 500,000 in two funding rounds.
« We are a platform that connects commuters in Africa to safer, more reliable and cleaner transport. Easy Matatu is designed for the professional looking to succeed », relay We Are Tech Africa.
The solution presents a mobile application from where the user can access the services offered. You must first follow the registration process by providing some personal information. If the user wants to become a driver, he must use the “support” button, then click on “drivers”. A form to fill out appears.
As far as users are concerned, it is essential to get to the relay point on time, because the maximum waiting time is 5 minutes. Several points are visible on the map of the application, and you just have to choose the closest to your place of departure and your destination. Easy Matatu offers an integrated means of payment and a wallet rechargeable by mobile money.
To encourage the use of its solution, the start-up has set up a reward system. Commuters can sponsor their relatives and earn sums of up to 5,000 Ugandan shillings. In 2022, Easy Matatu appeared in the Top 45 start-ups selected in the “Climate Tech” category for the first edition of the AfricaTech Awards.
