The Eastern Washington Eagles are back in familiar territory. After opening the season unranked for the first time 2007, the Eagles jumped back into the national polls following their 27-24 win over then-15th-ranked UC Davis on Saturday night. EWU came in at 19th in the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 media poll and 25th in the AFCA Coaches Poll.
Eastern has taken down ranked opponents in back-to-back weeks to improve to 2-2 overall this season. They beat No. 19 Southeastern Louisiana at home, 40-29 on Sept. 16.
The Eagles have now been ranked in 137 of the last 157 weeks, highlighted by a 57-week streak that ended late in 2015 and a 46-week streak that ended in 2019. They have finished the season ranked 17 times since 1985.
With Eastern Washington’s first appearance this season, the Big Sky gained a seventh ranked team. Montana State, coming off a 40-0 Big Sky shutout of Weber State, led the way at No. 3 behind No. 1 and defending FCS champion South Dakota State and No. 2 North Dakota State, which both had open weeks.
A national media panel selects the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 Poll. A first-place vote is worth 25 points, a second-place vote 24 points, all the way down to one point for a 25th-place vote.
