Eastern Switzerland: Fire from an apartment building causes a huge column of smoke over Herisau

A fire broke out in a residential building in Herisau on Saturday morning. Pictures from news scouts taken shortly following 7.30 a.m. show a column of smoke visible from afar over the capital of the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden. The Kapo Appenzell Ausserrhoden confirmed an ongoing operation, the corresponding emergency call was received shortly before 7 a.m. The affected house is located at the intersection of St. Gallerstrasse and Gossauerstrasse, according to the Kapo, according to initial findings, it is an apartment building.

The house was initially in full fire, as a spokesman for the kapo told 20 minutes. Fortunately, all residents were able to exit the building unharmed. They are now being cared for and housed by the municipality of Herisau. The flames were extinguished by the emergency services shortly before 10 a.m., the fire brigade is currently still on site with a fire watch. Possible causes of the fire are not yet known, and there are currently no reports of any injuries.
