On Thursday, the future director of the Salzburg Easter Festival, Nikolaus Bachler, presented his plans and the festival conductor 2023. In the KURIER interview, Bachler then made a clear announcement in the debate regarding the Austro-Russian star soprano Anna Netrebko: “Of course Anna Netrebko is welcome in Salzburg,” he said.
Netrebko, who celebrated her 50s in the Kremlin and visited the areas in Ukraine occupied by separatists, was recently asked by directors worldwide to distance herself from the Russian invasion war in Ukraine. She didn’t do that to everyone’s satisfaction – whereupon she lost engagements in New York, for example, and announced that she would be retiring from the stage for the time being.
