“Easter basket” – At 15% and 20% reductions on products

“We have taken a series of measures, which began to be implemented yesterday, March 1st. A range of products, almost 4000 products in supermarkets, following a drastic measure we voted in Parliament, the prices have started to decrease. We will see how much the reduction will be in the coming days. From the first day, yesterday, we carried out autopsies and we saw that we have a de-escalation of prices, reductions in the prices of products. We have discounts that can reach 15% or even 20%. We have stabilization and price reduction,” he added.

He added “all that you see is not to celebrate. We are keeping our heads down and working to ensure that inflation decelerates. We will not stop” while he announced that there will be an Easter basket for the household this year as well.

Mr. Skrekas also stated that “we asked the suppliers to reduce the list price and now all offers should be calculated at the new reduced prices. Thus, the consumer will be able to buy the offer even cheaper than before the application of the measures” and added: “We will not stop our effort to support households once morest inflation until we see tangible results.”

Regarding the offers, he noted: “We do not interfere with the offers and discounts made by the supplier to the consumer. We wanted the prices of the products on the shelves to be reduced and the offers to be calculated on the basis of the new prices.”

Finally, the minister said: “The measures that have been implemented since yesterday are measures of a permanent nature. We will continue to try to lower shelf prices and de-escalate inflation in other product categories as well.”

Then, on the same show, the general manager of the Masoutis chain, Theodoros Gerostergioudis, also spoke. As he said, the measures implemented since yesterday create the conditions to stop the price increases.

Indicatively, he mentioned some prices, such as that the price of 1st and 2nd infant milk has decreased by an average of 15-17% and, now, the consumer can find a product sold for less than 9 euros. A price reduction of 45-50% is recorded in the baby diapers on the shelf, and indicatively he mentioned that there is a product that is sold from 19.9 euros to 10.98 euros and this, as he noted, drags the whole line down. The price of a Greek baby detergent has been reduced by 3 euros and from 9.9 euros it is sold for 6.9 euros and another detergent from 19.65 euros is now sold for 11 euros while the price of cleaning products has dropped by 3 euros.

“This climate also drags food along. A well-known milk company now sells its milk at 2.08 euros from 2.28 euros,” he said.
