Rain and snow in the mountains in the North and the warm wind from the Sahara in the Centre-South. Easter has divided Italy in two from a meteorological point of view, giving away truly different postcards and even promising a worsening for Easter Monday which will force many to give up the traditional picnic. It snowed in the Dolomites at high altitude, above 1,800-1,900 metres. Landslide on state road 350 between Veneto and Trentino
New closure for the state road 350 which connects Veneto with Trentino. The fall of a large boulder, which occurred between the provinces of Trento and Vicenza in the municipality of Folgaria (Trento) most likely due to the rain that fell yesterday followingnoon and throughout the night, convinced the local administrators to close for reasons precautionary measure of the artery, which is now closed to traffic and pedestrians. This is the third landslide event in a few months: at the beginning of November the state road was closed due to a massive collapse of rocks. After a month of consolidation work, the wall was reopened for the Immaculate Conception, until a new landslide in mid-February, resolved in a few weeks. After today’s rock fall, reported by some motorists, the firefighters and local police arrived on site and then proceeded to close the “350”, awaiting further investigations on the stability of the rock wall by the technicians and geologists, which should begin on Tuesday, following the Easter weekend.
Chasm in the Varese area
A wave of bad weather has hit Valtellina and Valchiavenna since Easter morning, bringing rain to the valley floor and heavy snowfalls at altitudes above 1,200 meters with temperatures below seasonal averages. In the mountain tourist resorts of Madesimo, Livigno, Aprica and Bormio the ski facilities were open but not crowded due to the adverse weather including fog on the snow-covered slopes. The risk of avalanches remains high throughout the Lombardy Alps due to the failure of the new snow cover to settle. Bad weather and heavy rain also in Lombardy, with the alert rising to orange level due to hydrogeological risk. Throughout the province of Varese, firefighters were involved in dozens of interventions. Some residents living nearby were evacuated.

It also continues to rain in Milan, where strong thunderstorms were recorded even though the intensity of the wind dropped compared to the previous day. The Seveso and Lambro rivers are under control. Seventy-four interventions were carried out during the night in the Lombardy capital by the firefighters, largely due to fallen trees and branches and damaged scaffolding as well as flooding, without involving people. The rain forecast for tomorrow, on Easter Monday, triggers the orange alert between Modena and Reggio Emilia, which, according to the Civil Protection of Emilia Romagna, will be the most affected areas. For Monday, in fact, intense rainfall is expected in the Apennine areas, including thunderstorms and which might generate rapid increases in the hydrometric levels of the rivers, with occupation of the areas of expansion of the water courses, in particular, in fact, in the central sector of the region.
