A significant success for the Hellenic Defense Systems (EAS), as they secured funding of 33 million euros from the ASAP program of the European Union.

These funds will be allocated to upgrade the production process of the European defense industry.

According to a statement issued, two of the three funding proposals submitted by the Hellenic Defense Systems in collaboration with the MSM company, of the CSG group, with a total budget of 73 million euros, were approved, in which the European Commission contributes 33 million euros. In the Explosives category, the proposal of Hellenic Defense Systems, in the amount of 52 million euros, based on the evaluation, took the 1st place, while in the Powder category, the corresponding proposal in the amount of 21 million euros took the 3rd place.

The Greek proposal – according to the announcement – received the 2nd largest funding out of a total of 82 proposals in the Explosives category. The approval of the specific proposal will essentially ensure the reopening of the TNT factory in Lavrio, which had stopped operating in the 1980s. According to the results of the competition, Greece ranks 5th among the 28 countries that participated.

For the first time funding of EAS from European resources

According to the announcement of EAS, “despite the fact that, due to lack of resources, the financing of the third proposal for the upgrade of the storage facility was not achieved, the administration of EAS had already taken parallel initiatives to activate it, with the result that today it is operating, produces ammunition and has already delivered 10,000 155 mm projectiles following many years of inactivity.”

“At Hellenic Defense Systems we are proud that for the first time in their history they are financed by European funds. I would like to thank the executives of EAS, the employees for their commitment to the goals of our Company. We started the consolidation of EAS and charted a new extroverted path in a highly competitive environment. We believe in the strength of the Greek Defense Industry and we are realistically leading it on the path of development”, said, according to protothema, regarding European funding, EAS CEO Nikos Kostopoulos.
