When some songs get stuck in your mind and you can’t get rid of them, experts call them “earworms”, as the music is repeated in your head non-stop, according to a report published by the “Earworm” website.Wired“.

In 2020 I conducted study Among American university students, regarding 97 percent of them were infected with “earworms” by repeating the melody of the children’s song “Baby Shark”.

Claire Arthre, professor of music at the Georgia Institute of Technology, told Wired, “Earworms are a global phenomenon that runs across ages and cultures. What distinguishes them is that they pop up in your head and repeat in a loop that repeats the same tune.”

The report put together some tips that can help you get rid of the “melody that repeats in your mind”:

First, you can listen to the whole song, and this may give the brain a message that the job is complete, and there is no need to repeat the melody.

Secondly, distract yourself and try to do an action or think that distracts your mind from the repetitive melody, and some believe that “chewing gum” may do this task.

Third, diversify the songs you listen to, as it allows your brain to identify different types of music, and this may disrupt neural patterns that get stuck in repeating a single pattern of melody.

Fourth, manipulate the lyrics of the song, try to replace the vocabulary of the original melody with new words, which may make your mind stop repeating the same melody.
