Earthquakes in Turkey and Syria: a Belgian among the dead


A 66-year-old woman from the municipality of Heusden-Zolder, in the province of Limburg, died in the earthquake that shook Turkey and Syria overnight from Sunday to Monday. She was on vacation with her son in the Turkish province of Hatay (southeast).

The building where they were staying collapsed. The son was able to be saved. “The death of Mrs. Remziye Dinç is confirmed”, said Thursday the alderman of the population, Engin Ozdemir (Vooruit). “Rescuers managed to pull her out of the rubble, but she died of her injuries on the way to hospital.”he specified.

The Heusden-Zolder flags will be flown at half-mast in solidarity with the family. The municipal administration will also open a register of condolences.
