Earthquake hits Turkey again; Buildings collapsed

ISTANBUL – After three weeks of recovery from a massive earthquake, southern Turkey has been hit by another tremor. One person died and more than 100 were injured in the 5.6-magnitude earthquake. The epicenter is Yesilurt in Malatya province. This is one of the provinces that suffered massive casualties and damage in the earthquake that occurred on the 6th of this month. 29 buildings that were in a dilapidated condition have completely collapsed. Rescue operation is going on.

It is estimated that more than 50,000 people died in Turkey and Syria in the previous earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8. Ten thousand followingshocks were experienced following this. Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry visited Turkey and Syria to show support for the relief efforts. This is the first diplomatic visit since Syria was suspended from the Arab League in 2011 following a civil war.

Earthquake in Gujarat

AHMEDABAD – An earthquake measuring 3.8 and 3.3 magnitude was felt in Gujarat’s Kutch and Amreli respectively. No damage or casualties were reported. This is the fifth earthquake in Amreli in a week.
