Cancer symptoms are often vague and subtle. This is the case for lung cancer, where there are usually no signs or symptoms in its early stages. This can make early detection of cancer difficult. However, knowing the warning signs ahead of time can help you catch symptoms in time, if you experience any.
Here are four warning signs of lung cancer that can appear first thing in the morning, right following you wake up. The following signs should not be ignored and you should seek immediate medical attention if you experience any of these symptoms.
-Fever
According to the US National Institutes of Health, patients with lung cancer, especially those in an advanced stage, often present with symptoms of fever. This is usually due to infection (including those associated with neutropenic fever due to radiotherapy and/or chemotherapy), followed by Neoplastic fever caused by tumor development or a high tumor burden. Neutropenia is a fever when a patient has neutropenia – in which the number of neutrophils (a type of white blood cell) is lower than normal. Anxiety and depression due to cancer can lead to psychological (stress-related) fever.
Waking up drenched in sweat
A patient with lung cancer may wake up drenched in sweat. One cause might be cancer-induced fever, which causes your body to sweat excessively to cool off.
-dry cough
A dry cough (without mucus) for more than three weeks may indicate lung cancer. A lung cancer cough usually begins as a dry cough that comes in spasms. According to studies, at least 65% of people with lung cancer have an irritating cough by the time they are diagnosed.
Blood in the sputum
Blood in sputum can also be a warning sign of lung cancer. For undisguised sputum, phlegm, also known as phlegm, is a thick type of mucus made in the lungs.
Other warning signs of lung cancer
Aside from these warning signs that may be first thing in the morning, other symptoms of lung cancer include:
Chest infections that keep coming back
coughing up blood
Soreness or pain when breathing or coughing
Persistent shortness of breath
Constant fatigue
Loss of appetite or unexplained weight loss
Fingers bow or the ends become larger (clustering of the fingers)
pain when swallowing
whistling
hoarse voice
swelling in your face or neck;
Constant pain in the chest or shoulder
