Medical experts at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri, wanted to be able to detect early warning signs two years before diagnosis.
L’study of researchers was conducted on 5075 people with stage 1 colorectal cancer.
Their analyzes identified four warning signs. Here they are.
“It can be difficult to talk regarding it, expresses an American doctor met by NBC News. The reality is that it’s important to understand what’s normal and what’s not.”
Study participants experienced at least one of the four symptoms listed above.
NBC News reports that nearly half of participants experienced at least one symptom three months before screening.
Screening is primarily intended for people aged 50 to 74 in Quebec.
The American authorities are concerned to see an increase in people with this cancer.
According to the American Cancer Society, the proportion of colorectal cancers in people under 55 doubled between 1995 and 2019, from 11% to 20%.
24,300 Canadians will be diagnosed with colorectal cancer in 2022, the Canadian Cancer Society had estimated, while 9,400 Canadians will die from it.
“Colorectal cancer starts in the cells of the colon or rectum. A cancerous (malignant) tumor is a group of cancerous cells that can invade nearby tissues and destroy them. The tumor can also spread (metastasize) to other parts of the body,” recalls the charity.
