The National Election Commission announced that the turnout was 3.59% at 11 am on the 27th, the first day of early voting for the June 1 local elections.
In advance voting, which started at 3,551 polling stations nationwide at 6 am on the same day, 1,58,952 out of 44.33,449 total voters completed their votes.
At the same time, the turnout increased from the 2014 June 4 local elections (1.74%) and the 2018 June 13 local elections (2.92%). It was lower than the March 9 presidential election (5.38%), which recorded the highest early voting turnout in history.
The region with the highest turnout is Jeonnam (7.04%). Jeonbuk (5.07%), Gangwon (4.78%), Gyeongbuk (4.69%), and Chungbuk (3.99%) were followed in that order.
The lowest place was Daegu, which recorded 2.46%. Gyeonggi Province (3.07%), Busan (3.17%), Sejong (3.25%), and Ulsan (3.27%) were followed in that order.
The turnout in the metropolitan area is 3.34% in Seoul and 3.29% in Incheon.
