Liver cancer occurs when cells grow uncontrollably in any part of the cone-shaped organ located in the upper right part of the abdomen.
According to the British newspaper Express, it is difficult to deal with a condition that may be fatal if it is found late, so it is necessary to know the warning signs as soon as they appear, and deal with them.
Worryingly, most people don’t experience signs and symptoms in the early stages of primary liver cancer, but there are warning signs to be aware of.
Dr. Ayman Saleh, of Sidra Medicine in Qatar, shared the first signs that might appear.
Common signs and symptoms of liver cancer may include:
Unexplained weight loss
Anorexia
Abdominal pain or discomfort, especially in the upper right part
Swelling or enlargement of the abdomen
Jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes)
Fatigue and weakness
Vomiting and nausea
white stools
dark urine
Liver cancer usually causes symptoms such as growth of a cancerous tumor, impaired liver function, or blockage of the bile ducts.
“Liver cancer can disrupt the normal functioning of the liver and affect its ability to process nutrients and toxins, and this can lead to weight loss, loss of appetite, fatigue and weakness,” said Dr. Salih.
Moreover, liver cancer can also lead to blockage of the bile ducts, which leads to a buildup of bile in the liver and bloodstream.
“This causes jaundice, which leads to yellowing of the skin and eyes, dark urine, and pale stools,” he added.
While the symptoms described above can be caused by various health issues, it is essential to get them checked out.
