She never imagined facing such a situation. A 39-year-old mother, Jules Fielding, began to worry following suffering from an unusual bleeding cycle. At first, she believed that this phenomenon was linked to menopause but to be sure, she preferred to make an appointment with her general practitioner.

And despite the bleeding stopping, she still went there on the big day because she felt tired and suffered from unexplained bruises. Following her appointment with the general practitioner and a series of tests, the thirty-year-old was finally diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia, a sad story relayed by the Mirror.

Faced with this most terrible situation, Jules had to undergo a bone marrow extraction to allow doctors to see how advanced the cancer was and what treatment would be necessary. Fortunately for her, the disease was detected early but the mother still had to undergo lifelong treatment. Now, she urges others to know the signs to look out for to detect the disease early.

His weakened immune system

As she explained, her treatment is not easy to bear. She gained weight, her mobility suffered greatly and her immune system was weakened. But far from being discouraged, she vowed to do everything to get back into shape. She began meditating, doing gentle exercise when possible, and following a vegan diet while maintaining a positive mindset.

Leukemia is a form of blood cancer that affects people of all ages. Overall survival for this disease is just over 50%, making it one of the deadliest forms of cancer. But like any other disease, early diagnosis can save lives. Note that a survey carried out by the charities Leukemia Care and Leukemia UK found that almost a third (31%) of people did not know how to recognize any of the four most widely reported symptoms of the disease.

As a reminder, the reduction in the number of red blood cells in the blood (anemia) can be responsible for paleness, shortness of breath, fatigue and an accelerated heart rate. The reduction in platelet levels (thrombocytopenia), for its part, can cause bleeding, particularly from the gums or nose. At the same time, people with leukemia can experience hematomas spontaneously or following slight blows. Finally, the reduction in the number of mature white blood cells (leukopenia) increases their risk of infections.
