Nearly 160 people took the opportunity to be screened for free for ENT cancers this Wednesday, September 20 in Nancy. They affect approximately 15,000 men and women every year in France. “It doesn’t matter if it’s taken early, it does if it’s taken latesummarizes Professor Patrice Gallet from the Nancy CHRU. The whole point is to consult early, because the current problem is that we diagnose these cancers too late. In 70% of cases, it is in an advanced stage. Treatment depends on the stage of the disease: surgery, radiation but also chemotherapy.
15,000 French people affected by ENT cancer
Among the symptoms, sore throat, persistent hoarseness, difficulty swallowing… Reading this list, Marcel, a resident of Malzéville, recognizes himself. “I’m in. It’s already been six months since I spoke to my doctor about it. This screening is good, I tell myself that I might have some information.” He is examined by Doctor Camille Marçon Mathis. She examines the inside of his mouth, his tonsils, and feels his neck for lymph nodes. Barely five minutes, nothing to report. Marcel leaves a little relieved, with an advanced date for a consultation at the CHRU. Currently the deadlines are three months.
