Early childhood development space arrives in Carapeguá

Asuncion, IP Agency.- The early childhood development service was officially opened at the Carapeguá District Hospital in the department of Paraguarí. This program is intended to identify the strengths and weaknesses of each child in his/her first years of life.

On the occasion, the Minister of Health, María Teresa Barán, highlighted teamwork and encouraged the staff to provide care with quality, warmth and empathy. “This is a service for the community, for the entire department of Paraguarí,” the Minister stressed.

For his part, the director of the District Hospital, Alcides Ochoa, highlighted the joint work of the authorities in support of health and of the children who require early attention, emphasizing that the enabling of this service allows for a local response, saving families from having to travel to Asunción to access specialized therapies.

The service has a multidisciplinary team of professionals from the areas of pediatrics, dentistry, psychology, speech therapy and physiotherapy.

It is worth noting that the inclusive dental clinic in this service is the third one opened by the current administration of the Ministry of Health, and the fourth in the country. It will operate on Mondays and consultations in the other areas will take place from Tuesday to Friday, providing a comprehensive and coordinated approach to child development.

Marlene Estigarribia, coordinator of the early intervention service at the District Hospital, stressed the importance of early intervention to identify the strengths and weaknesses of each child. This therapeutic approach is centered on the family, with the aim of training parents to support their children’s development in everyday life.

“The family is the fundamental pillar in this process and its active participation is crucial for the success of the therapies,” he said.

Excited and grateful mothers

Luz Cañete is the mother of a baby who is just over 1 year old and was born prematurely. She said that she travels twice a week to the country’s capital so that her daughter receives the therapies she needs.

“Like me, many mothers are taking on the commitment; this type of stimulation did not exist in the department and we had to travel to Asunción. I thank the government of Paraguay for this benefit for all children,”

For her part, Alba Caballero was moved to share the joy that her 2-year-old son can receive the care he requires in his city. “I am happy, it is a dream come true; as a mother, I cannot contain my happiness for my son because he will be able to continue his treatment within a few steps,” she concluded.
