For the third consecutive year, bronchiolitis appeared early in France. As proof, four regions are already in the pre-epidemic phase.
While the Government currently has to deal with the problem of bedbugs proliferating in the capital, another delicate health situation is looming on the horizon. Like the previous two years, bronchiolitis appeared earlier in the season on our territory. This respiratory disease caused by a virus affecting the bronchioles is contagious and very common in children under 2 years old. If it evolves favorably in the majority of cases, complications may appearsuch as pauses in breathing or apnea, and in the worst case scenario, lead to sudden death.
Faced with the situation, Public Health France has placed four regions of France in the pre-epidemic phase. Are concerned : the Grand Est, Normandy, New Aquitaine and Pays de la Loire. An epidemic also present in the departments and overseas regions since the health agency detailed in its weekly bulletin that “Guyana has also moved into the pre-epidemic phase”, following Guadeloupe and Martinique last week. Note that in mainland France, 1,300 children under 2 years old (+22% in one week) were admitted to the emergency room because of bronchiolitis and almost a third of them had to be hospitalized. The alert was also given by SOS doctor, which this week counted 277 consultations linked to the viral infection.
