Fighting in hockey is the most common thing. It is considered good form to hit on the faces, dropping gloves. But during a brawl in the VHL championship match (the second most important professional league in the country) between Togliatti’s Lada and Ryazan-VDV, an unusual reception caused Homeric laughter in the stands.

Pavel Medvedev from “Lada” met Roman Krivosheev with a tough power reception. Almost all the players of Ryazan-VDV stood up for their comrade. Nikita Anokhovsky and Rostislav Khaliullin soloed in the mass brawl. As a result, the latter was given a huge fine – 5+20 minutes. When the announcers announced the wording of the judges: “For the bite of the opponent”, the audience perked up more than during the sharpest combinations.
Blood and fury
Meanwhile, teeth were used during the competition more than once or twice. The most famous episode happened on June 28, 1997 in a heavyweight boxing match between Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield. In the third round, Mike violently entered the clinch and bit off part of his opponent’s ear. I didn’t eat “fresh” and spat out a piece on the floor. The referee immediately carried the stub to Holyfield’s corner.
– I was a little out of my mind at that moment. There was a lot of blood and it made me furious. At some point, I just mightn’t control my nerves. Honestly: before the fight, I didn’t plan to bite him, – Tyson justified himself.
By the way, the fight was not stopped then, and before the end of the round, Mike tried to hit Evander once more.
– Some said that the bitten off piece is kept in the museum. Others confidently wrote that it was sold at auction. But he was immediately put in place. Now there is a small notch, no big deal. I forgave him on the same day … A week later we met in the elevator. Everyone thought that the massacre would continue. But Mike surprised everyone. He asked, “Are you okay?” I got $35 million for the fight, Mike got $25 million. Why did we have to fight for free, – Holyfield smirks.
Now, a quarter of a century later, the boxers are friends. Holyfield made good money on the incident – he released a branded sauce that he promoted with Tyson. In the video, Evander tells Michael:
– With my sauce, you will definitely want to bite off someone’s ear. Mike Tyson will not let you lie.
– Indeed, with your sauce, the ear would be much tastier, – Mike replies.
He groped for a penis
In 2010, the famous Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez bit the future player of Dynamo Moscow, Otman Bakkal, on the hand during a Dutch championship match. In total, the “biter” scored eight times, including at the 2014 World Cup. Then he dug into the chest of the Italian Giorgio Chiellini. But the future defender of the capital’s Lokomotiv and Zenit, Bronislav Ivanovich, took revenge for the bite in the same way – though not Suarez, but the Everton player James McCarthy.
For an irrepressible appetite, Suarez always received a fine and disqualification – from 10 matches to 6 months. But the player of the French club “Sotriht” ogreb as much as five years of excommunication from football. And rightly so – there was nothing to grab the opponent’s teeth from “Terville” for the penis. Even following the match. Oh those French. The victim had to have nine stitches.
Springvale footballer Marcus Davis nearly lost his scrotum. Port Melbourne captain Peter Filandia pleaded guilty to self-mutilation. He said, they say, following falling on the grass, he and his opponent “got entangled in each other” and he bit where he might reach.
Dog Kasparov
Hockey player of the youth team “Russian Knights” Nikita Selyukov encroached on the sacred – he bit the judge several times.
– I was terribly hurt, but I didn’t give up and didn’t let him go, – the referee is proud.
In the NHL, too, do not beat the thumbs. If they beat, then in the blood, and sometimes they bite. And so it happened in the meeting between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Philadelphia Flyers.
– This guy, Scott Hartnell, bit Chris Letang’s finger. What was Letang’s finger doing in Hartnell’s mouth anyway? Why was he putting his fingers in Hartnell’s mouth? And he’s still complaining! – the leading Canadian hockey expert Don Cherry was indignant.
God himself ordered the wrestlers to bite – so close contact is the fight. In the semi-finals of the 2012 Olympics, the Indian athlete Sashila Kamara first put pressure on the eyes of the Kazakh Akzhurek Tanatarov, and then bit him on the ear in the stalls. The receiver helped: the treacherous Indian won the duel. Indeed, wrestling.
Former world chess champion Garry Kasparov also once used his teeth. True, not in a fight with some grandmaster, but once morest an ensign of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. It happened during the detention at the building of the Khamovniki court.
– Maybe his service dog bit him? Let them make an examination, whose bite it is, – the cunning chess player blamed the dumb animal.
