Ear Health: Signs and Symptoms of Common Conditions Revealed by Experts

Experts have confirmed that the ear not only helps hearing, but can tell a lot regarding a person’s health.

Experts describe the signs and symptoms of six different conditions that can affect the ears and may say a lot regarding our health, including a potentially fatal cancer.

1. Heart disease

If you are under the age of 60 and have a diagonal crease across your earlobe, you may have a higher risk of developing coronary heart disease (CAD).
Dubbed the Frank Mark, the unusual warning has been seen on the likes of Steven Spielberg and George W. Bush.
There is no definitive answer regarding the relationship between ear wrinkles and heart attacks, but some doctors believe that the underlying process that causes the two is similar.
One theory is that earlobe creases are associated with a loss of elastin and elastic fibers in the skin, the same process that damages blood vessels in coronary artery disease.

In fact, there is no reason to panic, as most of the time, ear creases can be the result of sleeping wrong. But if you’re experiencing chest pain or shortness of breath, make an appointment with your doctor.

2. High blood pressure

Tonic tinnitus might indicate blood pressure problems, if you haven’t just returned from a concert. A common hearing problem is not usually a sign of anything serious and may get better on its own. For those with high blood pressure, tinnitus is a common complaint.
High blood pressure occurs when the pressure in the blood vessels is unusually high.

Research published in NCBI found that 44 percent of tinnitus sufferers also had high blood pressure. The connection between the two cases is related to the network of microvascular systems in the auditory system. When pressure builds up in this system, it can lead to tinnitus symptoms.

A Brazilian study said tinnitus, which sounds like a pulsating or pumping sound, might be related to blood pressure.
And you should see a general practitioner if you hear continuous or regular sounds such as buzzing or ringing in your ears, according to the NHS.

3. Fungal infection

Itchy ears may indicate a fungal infection. Fungi (usually Aspergillus and Candida) grow and infest the ear canal. When Aspergillus causes a fungal ear infection, you may see yellow or black dots and fuzzy white spots in the ear canal. And if Candida is the cause, you may see a thick, creamy white discharge coming from your ear. Other symptoms include earache, crusting of the skin around the ear canal, headache, tinnitus, and hearing loss.
If you develop any of these symptoms, contact your healthcare provider because fungal ear infections are unlikely to go away without treatment.

4. Breast cancer

Some earwax is normal and beneficial. This yellow substance prevents insects and dirt from entering the ear canals, but earwax with a wet and sticky texture is not normal.

Some studies suggest that wet wax may be a sign of a mutation in the ABCC11 gene, which may increase the risk of breast cancer.
It is important to remember that the presence of wet earwax does not mean that a woman is at risk of developing breast cancer, as a study suggests that this is just one factor that increases the risk of breast cancer.

But if earwax is bothersome, you can try buying some ear drops from the pharmacy. And never try to remove earwax buildup yourself with your fingers, a cotton swab or anything else, as this can damage your ear and push the wax further down.
But if ear drops fail to thin the wax or make it less sticky, call your doctor.

5. Red ear syndrome

Spending too much time in the sun and even being embarrassed can turn the ears red, but red ear may also occur with red ear syndrome (RES), a rare condition that causes the earlobes to burn and ache.
But for some people the pain can be sharp and severe. It can also spread from the earlobes to the cheeks, jaw, or the back of the head.

Status attacks usually last 30 to 60 minutes. Experts still don’t know what causes red ear syndrome, but they think it’s not serious.
If the symptoms are frequent or painful, or if you cannot hear properly, you should seek medical advice.

6. Kidney disease

Ears that have a few skin tags — small growths of flesh — may indicate kidney disease. A study by the British Medical Journal indicated that this was the case, especially for newborns.

Scientists have suggested that this is because the development of the renal canal and ears while in the womb occurs at the same time. Therefore, any kind of disturbances or accidents during this time can cause the kidneys and ears to malfunction in some way.
And you should see your doctor if you have any signs of kidney disease.
