On July 17, Electronic Arts finally revealed all the details of EA Sports FC 25, its second football game without the official FIFA license, which will arrive on PlayStation, Xbox, Switch and PC consoles on September 27, 2024.
Among the details revealed were the arrival of the 5v5 Rush Mode that completely replaces the Volta mode from the previous game, the improved coach and player career mode that will include women’s leagues, the return of Ultimate Team, Club Rush and more.
However, one detail that wasn’t emphasized much during its reveal was the addition of a paid Season Pass, which will grant players rewards in three popular game modes: Ultimate Team, Career Mode, and Clubs. The “Premium Tier Pass” will be an additional tier system to the existing free tier system, according to VG24/7.
EA Sports FC 25 Ultimate Team mode producer Karthik Venkateshan revealed that the free-to-play tier in the new game will function similarly to what we saw in EA FC 24. “The premium pass will be something we add on top of that,” Venkanteshan added. This season pass will be shared across Ultimate Team, Clubs, and Career modes.
EA Sports FC 25 Season Pass will have “exclusive rewards”
Game Design Director Richard Waltz shared that players will only notice something extra in the premium tier compared to the free tier at a high rank. Premium won’t have “exclusive rewards that imply that you have to do that. We’ll have players, packs, in clubs, customization,” Waltz explained.
While players will be able to purchase the pass with FC Coins, the price of the Premium Tier Pass is unknown.
At this point, EA Sports FC 25 players should be used to the microtransactions issue even before Electronic Arts finalized its deal with FIFA. However, we’ll soon see if this addition is well-received by players, as was the case recently with the radical change to the Apex Legends battle pass.
