EA Sports and Nike Announce Partnership to Implement Tennis NFT in Their Games

A EA announced this week a partnership with Nike to have the tennis created in NFT by the company’s Web3 (.Swoosh) platform in their titles. However, neither of the two companies revealed details regarding this measure or even which titles will receive these elements.

Overall, this partnership appears to be in line with what Nike had in mind when it released the .Swoosh in November of last year. For those who don’t know, it’s a marketplace where users can exchange, sell or buy their virtual products. Andrea Hopelain is Senior Vice President of EA Brand for EA Sports and Racing and commented in a statement:

All of us at EA Sports are focused on leading the next evolution in sports fandom, and this new collaboration with our longtime partners at Nike sits squarely at the intersection of innovation, sport and culture. Working with .Swoosh, we will bring creativity and self-expression to fans as they connect, compete and share their love of sport.

Nike, in turn, works with NFTs and it is not now that the company makes efforts to make the virtual world gear up. In April of last year, a shoe by the brand was launched and sold for BRL 640,000 at the time. In any case, EA’s press release does not mention the term “NFT”.

It is worth remembering that the market for this category is not doing very well and has been in decline for some months. In addition, gamers also did not have good receptions to attempts to integrate blockchain elements into games. Even so, the .Swoosh platform has sold over $1 million worth of virtual goods.
